Make it in Design - Greeting Card Design Winners!
This month we teamed up with the fantastic online design school Make It In Design. We set their students a brief - to design two new occasion cards for Wraptious - with their own
choice of colour, text and imagery. We had so many gorgeous designs submitted to us, it was literally impossible to pick one winner... so we chose four instead! Here's a little bit more about the talented card designers we'll be adding to the website...

How long have you been designing?
I’ve been designing since about 2009 when I completed Uni.
What artists have inspired you?
Too many artists to mention but some of my faves are Klimt, Sara Fanelli, Eric Care, Egon Schiele also Lori Siebert.
What would your dream job be?
My dream job would be to design the artwork for products and packaging.
What three things would you take on a desert island?
On a desert island, it would have to be my sketchbook and paints and an Ipod with a long playlist.
Favourite quote? Be the rainbow in someone else’s cloud… Maya Angelou.

How long have you been designing? I've been drawing/designing since I was a young girl. I suppose I've always loved all things creative but professionally my illustration career started properly around 30 years ago.
What artists have inspired you?
I love work by illustrators like Caroline Gardner and The Pope Twins
What would your dream job be?
I'd love to work for Caroline Gardner (as above) but am also hugely into surface pattern design so would love to see my designs on babywear in Next for example.
What three things would you take on a desert island?
Ooh...this is a hard one! I'm assuming I can't take people/animals so would have to plump for 1) photos of my family 2) some paper and drawing equipment to keep me busy and 3) a compendium of Dickens' books as I haven't read many of his and that would keep me occupied
Favourite quote? Best quote (and one I try to live by) is 'All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing' - Edmund Burke. But I also like 'If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you' - Unknown
Amy Waldren
How long have you been designing?
About 8 years, professionally, although I’ve had a lifelong love of drawing and creating. I work at an agency as a graphic designer (with a focus on web design), but also make sure I find time for surface pattern and illustration too! I have small shops on Spoonflower and Etsy.
Which artists have inspired you?
At school I remember being fascinated by Escher’s tessellating patterns, and trying to recreate my own version using fish and glitter. It was probably my first ever pattern repeat! But more modern designers/artists I’m inspired by include Jessica Hische, Lauren Hom, Sara Miller, Cass Deller and Cat Coquillette.
What would your dream job be?
I’d love to design a range of products with my patterns/illustrations on.
What three things would you take on a desert island?
I need more info about why I’m there…but assuming I’m just there to chill out for a bit and don’t need to try and survive, I’d be taking my Kindle, lip balm, and some kind of cocktail-making kit :)
Favourite quote?
"Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will."
Not sure who it’s by, but something I need to remember!
Eli Jonathan
How long have you been designing?
I've loved painting and drawing for a really long time, but it wasn't until my final year of uni about 4 years ago that I really got into surface design and illustrating with specific products and projects in mind.
What artists have inspired you?
I'm really lucky as I've always had access to lots of different artists and styles - my Mum is a painter herself and always took me to galleries and museums. I like to take inspiration from any art I come across, but in particular, I love artists who use a lot of colour like Mark Rothko, Gareth Lucas, John James Audubon and Ana Matsusaki.
What would your dream job be?
I'd love to make patterns and designs for children's clothing and objects! I'm currently a nursery teacher, so creating fun and colourful learning resources is also something I'd really like to work towards.
What three things would you take on a desert island?
Oooh, a tough one! A sketchbook and pencil set would be a must have. Some kind of portable music player and a really good book would be useful, too.
Favourite quote?
"Live now. Make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again." I'm a huge sci-fi fan, and this quote from Star Trek's Captain Picard always reminds me to go for things!
